Course Aims

The Aim of the (SMSTS) Site Managers Safety Training Scheme Refresher Course is to assist site management and supervisory personnel to:

  • Manage health and safety on site in accordance with the current legal provisions and within the context of their management or supervisory role
  • Develop an understanding of their responsibilities and accountability for site health, safety and welfare
  • Recognise that a safe site is efficient, economical and productive.

The refresher course covers all updated and/or new and relevant legislation affecting safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture within the workforce.

Who is this course suitable for?

This course is for you if you have previously passed the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course, or a subsequent refresher course.

Course Objectives

To refresh the candidates with updates to legislations, within the industry guidance and GE 700. And refresh working knowledge in these aspects:

  • Implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation affecting your daily work
  • Implement new guidance and industry best practice
  • State your duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment

Course fee includes CITB registration, publication and certification costs.

Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to take a refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.

PRE-REQUISITES

Please advise of any additional needs within a learning environment, such as Dyslexia, amongst candidates in advance of the course.

Candidates must be 21 years of age or older.

Must Bring Photo ID - For British Nationals, one of the following (original hard copy - not electronically): a current and valid branded form of identity token, used for accessing the RMI (Railway Maintained Infrastructure) such as a Sentinel Card; in-date and valid full driving licence; in-date and valid UK Provisional Photo Card Driving Licence; in-date and valid passport, a UK biometric ID Card/Residence Permit (BRP), an Armed Forces Identity Card, a proof of age card recognised under PASS with a unique reference number (this includes the Citizen ID Card), N.I. Electoral Identity Card or a resident permit as per Home Office guidance.

For Non-British Nationals - an in-date and valid passport, Identity Card or Driving Licence from an EU or European Economic Area (EEA) country or a US Passport Card is required (original hard copy - not electronically). Non-British Nationals must also bring with them proof of their right to work in the U.K
