Course Aims

The hedge trimmer training and assessment course ensures that delegates can use the equipment safely and with confidence and acquire an understanding of the relevant regulations and safety requirements.

Who is this course suitable for?

Our hedge trimmer training course is available to all levels of operator and the course duration will depend on experience. If you are a more experienced operator this will provide you with the opportunity to update and practice your skills and gain certification.

This course is physical so you must be fit and able to carry out the tasks required in the course programme.

Our course is suited to people who are employed in agriculture, horticulture, landscaping and grounds maintenance industries.

Course Objectives

The course will train delegates to safely operate the hedge trimmer in a workplace environment and includes:

  • Safety and risk assessment
  • HSE legislation
  • Protective clothing
  • Components and maintenance
  • Practical maintenance
  • Fuelling and starting
  • Testing the safety features
  • Checking balance of the hedge trimmer
  • On site environmental risk assessment
  • Safe operation
  • Work planning

Additional Information

Learners will require...

  • Hedge trimmers complying with safety regulations
  • Operators’ instruction books and service manuals for all machinery.
  • Ear defenders
  • Safety goggles and other appropriate PPE, inc visors and safety boots.
  • Fuel in appropriate container.

City & Guilds / NPTC Assessment for this course can be provided at an additional cost if required.

PRE-REQUISITES

Delegates must be at least 16 years of age.

Would all candidates please ensure they bring with them their National Insurance Number together with 2 from the following; Company ID, Passport, Driving Licence or some other form of photographic identification.

Candidates are required to bring High Visibility Clothing to include High Visibility (HV) orange upper body clothing to BS EN 471:2003    class 2 as a minimum (HV tabard); and HV orange lower body clothing to BS EN 471:2003 class 1 as a minimum (HV trousers or HV over trousers), PPE incl. Hard Hat, and Safety footwear (Incl ankle protection, not rigger boots).  Eye protection must conform to BS EN166 (safety goggles of Grade 1 impact standard (now EN166B) and gloves.

-    Forestry Visor to EN1731 standard
-    Hand Protection to EN 388:2016 Level C as minimum. (Cut 5) Close cuffed.
-    Ear Protection to EN352 standard
