Course Aims

Educate candidates on the safe operation of rail mounted disc cutters.

Who is this course suitable for?

All personnel required to use a rail mounted Disc Cutter. And candidates who already have an abrasive wheels competence.

It is a legal requirement under The Provision and use of Work Equipment 1998 (PUWER) that all staff who use powered tools in the workplace must be competent in the safe use of these tools.

Course Objectives

The Objectives of the Course are to refresh delegates on the following:

  • Understand responsibilities under Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 & other current relevant legislation such as Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.
  • Understand the functions of all major/minor components.
  • Safely and correctly operate the rail mounted Disc Cutter.
  • Refuel the rail mounted disc cutter safely

Additional Information

This course can be delivered within our own training centre or at a customer’s own premises where suitable training facilities are available.

If training is taking place externally, a hot works permit, spill kit and fire extinguisher will be required on-site for all hot works.

Pre Requisites

CANDIDATES MUST HAVE AN EXISTING VALID ABRASIVE WHEELS COMPETENCE

Must be a minimum age of 16.

Would all candidates please ensure they bring with them their National Insurance Number together with 2 from the following; Company ID, Passport, Driving Licence or some other form of photographic identification.

Candidates are required to bring High Visibility Clothing to include High Visibility (HV) upper body clothing to BS EN 471:2003 class 2 as a minimum (HV tabard); and HV  lower body clothing to BS EN 471:2003 class 1 as a minimum (HV trousers or HV over trousers), PPE incl. Hard Hat, and Safety footwear.  Eye protection must conform to BS EN166 (safety goggles of Grade 1 impact standard (now EN166B).  

-    Hand Protection to EN 388:2016 Level C as minimum. (Cut 5) Close cuffed.
-    Ear Protection to EN352 standard
-    Flame Retardant Overalls/Trousers or Welding Spats
-    Respiratory protection to BS EN149 (FFP3) standard. Mask mandatory, Face Fit Respirator preferable

Any candidates who have any additional needs within a learning environment, such as Dyslexia, please inform us ahead of the course.

All candidates should arrive to training centre in good time and in fit to work condition.
