Course Aims
The aim of the course is to provide delegates with the skills and underpinning knowledge required to undertake Possession Support duties in line with the Possession Support unit of competence.
Who is this course suitable for?
This module is designed to train anybody who is responsible for undertaking Possession Support training as part of their duties on Network Rail Infrastructure. It is designed to develop a person’s knowledge, understanding and skills and is therefore particularly suited to persons required to prove their competence in these areas.
Course Objectives
At the end of the training candidates will be able to:
• Identify the tasks required to be undertaken by Possession Support.
• Carry out the Duties of the Possession Support competence requirements as specified in the Unit of Competence for Possession Support
• Demonstrate the appropriate behaviours required when conducting Possession Support duties safely and effectively
• Communicate with key personnel in conjunction with the role of Possession Support, using the correct protocols and variety of communication equipment
• Demonstrate the procedures to be carried out for the safe placing and removal of possession protection
Additional Information
Each Training course is treated as a shift as per the Sentinel Site Access requirements. You will have had to have the minimum of 12 hours rest prior to starting your course. If you have not had the minimum 12 hours rest then a risk assessment shall be required from your manager within 1 hour of you arriving for the course. Anyone failing to supply this risk assessment within the allotted time shall be removed from the course. All Sentinel Cards shall be scanned daily for proof of hours worked and travelled.
Candidates must hold PTS and IWA or COSS. If no IWA held, COSS must not be in Probationary status.
Candidates must be a minimum age of 18
Must have sufficient command of the English language as detailed in Network Rail Company Specification NR/S/CTM/021 (Competence & Training in Track Safety)
Must hold a valid Sentinel Track Safety card and meet the requirements of NR/L2/CTM/021 – Competence and Training in Track Safety.
Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence specific fitness medical requirements.
In addition the requirements of Network Rail Specification NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs and alcohol) must be met.
Please advise before the course begins if any candidates have any additional needs within a learning environment, such as Dyslexia that may require a scribe.
All candidates must bring with them their Sentinel card endorsed with the COSS and/or IWA competence. Failure to comply with this will result in the candidate being refused entry on the course.
All candidates must bring with them photographic ID - For British Nationals - a current and valid recognised, branded form of identity card, used for accessing the RMI (Railway Maintained Infrastructure) such as a Sentinel Card, full driving licence, passport, biometric ID Card, resident permit as per Home Office guidance or 'ValIDate' card. For Non-British Nationals - a current and valid passport is required.
