Course Aims

This course is intended for candidates who wish to continue working on or near the line on Network Rail’s infrastructure and wish to be re-certificated.

Who is this course suitable for?

Existing PTS holders who also hold DCCR certification.

Course Objectives

The refresher course is aimed at existing PTS & DCCR holders and will consist of a reassessment of knowledge in relation to Personal Safety on or near the line.

Upon successful completion of the course, the candidates will have the skills and knowledge and understand the behaviours required to work safely near or adjacent to DC conductor rails.

They will be able to describe the principles of the DC electrified system, identify the main components of the DC system and the hazards and risks associated with working DC conductor rail areas.

Pre-Requisites

As per Sentinel Scheme Rules, all Safety critical courses must be booked and paid for by the primary sponsor of any candidate.

It is the Sponsors responsibility to ensure candidates booked onto the course are eligible for the training they are to receive and in line with any relevant medical level or restriction that may apply, in accordance with NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements.

Must bring Sentinel smart card endorsed with PTS & AC (not in learning support) and DCCR.  Please be advised that the competency can only be recertified if it is valid or within the 8 week grace period Minimum of 4 Entries on the PTS Logbook endorsed by the COSS & 2 management reviews within the last 2 years since previous PTS training.

Individual entries must also be signed off by a Line Manager.  Please be advised that Work Experience Logbooks not meeting these requirements will result in candidates not being eligible to continue with the course.  (NB:  These can be in the form of the actual blue book or Sentinel Swipe-in.  Candidates can bring a Sentinel download provided by their Sponsor but this must clearly show the individuals details)

Must be a minimum age of 18.

It is advisable to bring your Track Safety Handbook (you will have been provided with this on your PTS Initial course). Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements to minimum medical level 4 and NR/L2/OHS/00120 (Drugs & Alcohol).

Would all candidates please ensure they bring with them their National Insurance Number together with 2 from the following; Company ID, Passport, Driving Licence or some other form of photographic identification.

Candidates are required to bring High Visibility Clothing to include High Visibility (HV) upper body clothing to BS EN 471:2003 class 2 as a minimum (HV tabard); and HV  lower body clothing to BS EN 471:2003 class 1 as a minimum (HV trousers or HV over trousers), PPE incl. Hard Hat, and Safety footwear.  Eye protection must conform to BS EN166 (safety goggles of Grade 1 impact standard (now EN166B).  

Any candidates who have any additional needs within a learning environment, such as Dyslexia, please inform us ahead of the course.

All candidates should report to training centre in good time and in fit to work condition.

Failure to meet the criteria for successful completion of the course will result in the candidates PTS/AC/DCCR competency being taken down, requiring the candidate to attend PTS/DCCR Initial training again, which may include completing the E-learning module if this has not been attended previously.
