Course Aims

An Interim competence assessment is required between 9-15 months following the first 24 months of competence. The candidate must have at least four entries in their work experience book prior to the interim assessment.

Who is this course suitable for?

This assessment is specifically for those who hold the COSS OLP CRP LLT (Controller of Site Safety with Overhead Line Permit, Control of Railway Possession and Live Line Tester) Competence.

Following completion of the Controller of Site Safety training a delegate will be issued with a competence endorsed as Probationary.

Any persons who wish to maintain their certification must successfully complete COSS assessments. Only persons who have the correct number of log book entries, and if the COSS assessment falls within the correct timescale, will be eligible to undergo said assessment.

During this period the delegate must demonstrate to a mentor that they are ready for Post Mentoring Core Competence Assessment. Evidence of this must be recorded in the Work Experience Book

If a person fails to carry out their assessment within the correct timescale, they lose the competency and will have to undergo initial training to regain the competency.

Course Objectives

The Post Mentoring assessment includes the following requirement:

Re-assessment of the COSS’s PTS knowledge.

The Assessor should observe the COSS implementing a Safe System of Work in a real environment. The assessor must not form the group. The assessor will also ask questions to check knowledge, and all documentation will be checked.

If successful a competence of 24 months will be awarded.

The COSS must then have at least 4 entries in the work book prior to any recertification event.

On successful completion of the assessment Candidates will have proven that they have set up and maintained a safe system of work in accordance with the relevant parts of the Rule Book and the Railway Group Standards. They will also have demonstrated their underpinning knowledge in other areas of their qualification that was not witnessed at the time of assessment.
