Course Aims

This course is intended for candidates who work on or near the line on Network Rail’s infrastructure
On successful completion of the course Candidates will be able to carry out the duties of Lookout in accordance with the Rule Book and other relevant Standards

Course Suitability

This course is suitable for candidates aged 18 and over who are experienced and have been designated as suitable by their Sponsor and will be required to give warning to others working in the railway environment when a train approaches (Red Zone)

Additional Information

Following successful completion of the Lookout course, candidates undertaking Lookout Initial training will be required too complete the E-Learning and the post development workbook following this training in order to convert their competence from 'probationary' to 'competent'.  This must be successfully completed within a 12 month period, whilst under probationary competence.  The completion of this E-Learning module and the post training development workbook is the responsibility of the sponsor.

PRE-REQUISITES

Must be a minimum age of 18. 

Must meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements to medical level 1 or 3(must be eligible to work alone).

Must meet Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051(Drug & Alcohol) 
Must have sufficient command of the English language as per Network Rail Standard. 

Must bring Sentinel card endorsed with PTS (must not be in Learning Support or have red triangle) 
Please advise if any candidates have any additional needs within a learning environment, such as Dyslexia ahead of the course.

All candidates must bring with them photographic  ID - For British Nationals - a current and valid recognised, branded form of identity card, used for accessing the RMI (Railway Maintained Infrastructure) such as a Sentinel Card, full driving licence, passport, biometric ID Card, resident permit as per Home Office guidance or 'ValIDate' card.  

For Non-British Nationals - a current and valid passport is required.

Candidates are required to bring the following PPE:
*High Visibility Clothing compliant with NR Standard NR/L2/OHS/021
*High Visibility orange upper body clothing to BS EN 471:2003 class 2 as a minimum (HV Tabard)
*High Visibility orange lower body clothing to BS EN 471:2003 class 1 as a minimum (HV Trousers or HV over-trousers
*Hard Hat and Safety Footwear (with ankle protection, NOT rigger boots)
*Safety Glasses EN166 2001
