Course Aims

This qualification outlines the reasons for safe entry and working in low risk Confined Spaces and the legal requirements. Learners will develop an understanding of how risk assessments can improve safety, the theory of safe entry and working and how to reduce the risk of harm.

Who is this course suitable for?

This qualification is suitable for individuals requiring to raise their awareness of the risks of Working in Low Risk Confined Spaces and for those that are employed in the control and supervision of others who are working in confined space and need to develop safe systems of work including risk assessments and Permit to Enter systems.

Course Objectives

The Objectives of the qualification are to provide delegates with knowledge and understanding of:

  • Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 & Approved Code of Practice
  • Identification of a confined space
  • Confined space classifications:
  • Water industry national classifications
  • National occupational standard
  • Risk assessment & workplace safety
  • Operation of a safe system of work
  • Following and preparing a method statement
  • Use of permit to work control measures
  • Emergency planning
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Gas detection and ventilation
  • Hygiene and first aid

PRE-Requisites

Candidates are required to bring High Visibility Clothing to include High Visibility (HV) upper body clothing to BS EN 471:2003 class 2 as a minimum (HV tabard). PPE incl. Hard Hat (BS EN 397) (Climbing hat (EN 397:2012 + A1:2012) with head torch preferable but will be supplied if required), and Safety footwear (Incl ankle protection, not rigger boots). Due to the practical nature of elements of the training delivery and assessment process, it is advisable to wear clothing that is suitable as work wear

-    Hard Hat must have chin strap. Additional Head Light preferred
-    Hand Protection to EN 388:2016 Level C as minimum. (Cut 5).
Would all candidates please ensure they bring with them their National Insurance Number together with 2 from the following; Company ID, Passport, Driving Licence or some other form of photographic identification.

Any candidates who have any additional needs within a learning environment, eg a scribe for those may have Dyslexia, please inform us ahead of the course beginning.
